Relative Rocks — Stratigraphy and Index Fossils

  • Learn about how rocks are related to each other in space and time.
  • Explore how rock layers are formed and how scientists can use this information, along with index fossils, to understand how the earth evolved.
  • Create a stratigraphy log and learn how to interpret the relationships between different locations.

Eroding Horizons — Understanding Coastal Erosion

  • Learn about coastal erosion, including the processes and factors that cause and enhance coastal erosion and how erosion can be managed and then complete a hands-on science activity all about coastal erosion.

Uncovering Earth’s History — Fossil Footprints and Trace Fossils

  • Learn about fossilization and the information trackways can tell us with some examples from the Joggins Fossil Cliffs.
  • Use our stamps and rollers to make your own Carboniferous trackway scene in clay.

Illustrating the Ages — A Journey Through Geological Time

  • Create a long, visual timeline of Earth's long history (4.6 billion years!).
  • Learn about important events in Earth's history and when evolutionary transitions occurred.
